As a teenager, VLK undertook employment as a sullen busboy at a small, now-defunct Italian restaurant in Hoboken, New Jersey popular with yuppies on dates, neighborhood old-timers and the occasional local politician. Decorated with the traditional symbols of the Old Country, the atmosphere of the dining room was further enhanced by a 5-disc CD changer populated by a well known local crooner, other Rat-Pack adjacent personalities, and the odd operetta aria outsider. By contrast, the kitchen was soundtracked by a small one-speaker portable radio tuned to WKTU, New York’s premier late-90s dance-pop station. On especially busy evenings when all of the booths were filled, less well-regarded patrons could be seated at one of the small tables next to the kitchen door, which would often lead to complaints about the disorienting multi-genre sound mix, prompting the owner, a choleric Irish-American who tended the bar under an Italianate pseudonym he shared with the establishment itself, to lay into the cooks who would defer on the volume level of Culture Beat or C & C Music Factory for the next half hour.

While no known recording of the interior of the former Hoboken eatery exists today, on “Nun Darme Stu Turmiento”, VLK presents a sonic historical reconstruction of the environment one might encounter clearing baked ziti detritus at this very specific place and time. Using sounds from some of the 5-disc changer’s most cherished classics, modern computer-assisted music production techniques, and field samples from the actual Old Country, the resulting mixtape aims for something impressionistic, immersive and representative of the complete multi-sensory experience, rather than just accuracy in recreating the restaurant’s soundscape. The cassette comes packaged within a genuine reproduction of the original menu, which includes the popular “Alla Vodka Week” specials, and comes with a custom-produced "Italian style" STR drinks coaster. This is the second release covering VLK’s employment history following 2018’s “Avril and Sean in Camden”.

Ballermann Partykeller is a 56 minute continuous mix of the the most popular Mallorca-Style Schlager music. Seemlessly assembled by STR resident selector „DJ VLK” (not pictured), the tracks on this impressionistic mixtape have been lightly edited and tastefully processed using cutting-edge DJ FX to more accurately provide an authentic, immersive Playa de Palma experience in any home Partykeller environment. While some sections of the mix might sound slightly different to the radio versions of the Malle-hits you are used to, we can guarantee that all of the sounds you hear are 100% Schlager. To further heighten the real-life fantasy effect of the mixtape, interviews with the hottest Mallorca celebrities, such as Maite Kelly and Mickie Krause, have been blended into this potent Kellerbar cocktail. So why not go downstairs, switch off the dehumidifier, serve yourself a sex-on-the-beach, pop this tape in the hi-fi and close your eyes. The sonic virtual-reality party-vacation of your dreams is just one play-press away!

William Howard Livens was a British engineer best known for greatly improving the efficiency of chemical weapons used in the First and Second World Wars. To lesser acclaim, between the conflicts, he is also credited with developing the first prototype of a modern, front-loading dishwasher, descendants of which are now ubiquitous in homes around the world.

Cologne-based music composer Severino Pfifferling “plays” a modern version of one of Livens’ domestic marvels, by hand, percussively, as well as prepared and programmed in advance to execute a sequence of semi-generative, musically-relevant functions. This often-rhythmic foundation is accompanied using another now-common home appliance of military origin, the music synthesizer.

On this release, Pfifferling guides us through an augmented dark cycle of insecure longing for cleanliness and convenience; starting with the loading, through pre-wash, pump action, rinsing, drying and finally to the assumed resolution of unloading. The kitchen is an environment of hope, but also fear and uncertainty, a reality that Pfifferling refuses to let us delegate to our cherished, efficient household automatons. Let us look upon our mess.

about
“A western-PMU OST or a woman-composed contemporary version of The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.
With Slowride, the debut album of her new eponymous label, Tryphème releases a new odd horse-ballad. While we cross the artist’s old moons - My Bloody Valentine, Techno Animal, Abstrackt Keal Agram, or Bowery Electric in front -, hints of bass rock, dub and electronica appear on a trip-hop backdrop.

After Odd Balade, Tryphème’s voice takes a direct leap forward and gets deeper. It does not stand for a remote, diaphanous and romanticised person as the trip-hop canon would have it, but to express the artist’s angst and difficulties with a soft firmness.
The challenges that come with the music industry, insecurity, and the weight of social norms are tackled through metaphoric and complex horse-themed songwriting.
Emerging through a precise production; sometimes longing, sometimes bold, moods vary as the bass-played guitar riffs rise up from steady and comforting paces.”

A compositional and thrilling mix by KK Null that sounds as a sustained and gradually expanding consequential composition.

The author of the mix is Kazuyuki Kishino (b. 1961), publicly known as KK Null, a Japanese composer, multi-instrumentalist, sound sculptor and singer, who lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. Active since the early 1980's, Kishino has progressively become a synonymous with so-called Japanese noise scene and an influential experimental music figure in a much wider global context as well. Kishino primarily works in the field of noise music but frequently he is drifting into another musical terrains such as experimental, rock, electro-acoustic and post-hardcore. He is exploring outer boundaries of electronica, creating intensely clashing waves of noise, inventing electro-acoustic ambience and analysing broken down rhythmics and scattered pitch sculptures. Kishino has collaborated with music innovators such as Merzbow, Chris Watson, Z'ev, Keiji Haino, John Zorn, Jon Rose and others. He has participated as a performer and composer in over 100 releases (CD, vinyl and cassette) that were published on longevous and respectable labels such as Neurot Recordings, Korm Plastics, Important Records, Touch, Blossoming Noise and many others, including his own imprint Nux Organization. Kishino is also a mastermind behind the cult bands such as Zeni Geva and Absolut Null Punkt. Zeni Geva has recorded twice for John Peel Session on BBC and immensely toured throughout Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, playing hundreds of concerts. Actually Kazuyuki Kishino has a kaleidoscopic biography which requires deep studies so that is why Secret Thirteen is inviting all music lovers to learn more about his prolific career on his webpage.

“Secret Thirteen Mix 076” is a compositional and thrilling audio collage mirroring Kishino's early influences that had a significant impact on his later music activities. The mix includes 24 timeless works released between 1953 and 2012 by honorable composers and musicians such as Iannis Xenakis, Bernard Parmegiani, Mile Davis, Alan Lamb, This Heat, Z'ev, David Tudor and Slayer. There is also a strong impression of KK Null's musical individuality as well as the mix hides 4 of his powerful and authentic compositions. One of them titled “Eternal Implosion” haven't been published elsewhere before. In a perspective of music styles this mix varies among musique concrète, noise, experimental, contemporary, fusion, avangarde, abstract and even thrash.

The emotional, dimensional and conceptual development of the mix is deliberate, fluid and suggestive. The mixing is magnetic, accurate and imperceptible as it sounds as a sustained and gradually expanding composition. There is a lot of sound layering and masking so every work enriches each other with their uniqueness thus generating exclusively new formations and harmonies. The completely saturated formless wholeness surface is full of diverse ambiance, improvisational and unexpected percussions, mathematical arrangement and rich micro-activity. Constantly varying sound tension, pressure and intensity creates a dramaturgical type narrative that leads to the only word - chef-d'oeuvre.

“Secret Thirteen Mix 076” is like a strangely expressive and organically complex Jean Degottex's abstract painting “Suite Rouge IX”. The painting was influenced by Art Informel movement whose gestural techniques and ideology of radical break between traditional notions of order and composition usually produces formless bizarre structures. As well as Degottex's painting, KK Null's asymmetric selection reflects versatility, poetic eloquence, looseness of form and pursuit of natural spontaneity. KK Null's mix requires musical sophistication, listening concentration and high-fidelity speakers or headphones to fully absorb its smoothly colliding compositions and the whole dynamic tension.

TOTEMIC MODULATIONS, UNEARTHED FROM WIND AND WORDS
"The album Chênes mainly brings together songs. These songs are narratives of scenes that unfold in the forest, or in the city but with animal and plant protagonists. One song also tells the story of a solitary walk in the mountains. They are like zoomed-in snapshots of the world of insects, amphibians, birds, and mammals. They are also celebrations of growing life, and the pleasure and joy it brings.

Composed over the course of about two or three years, it was a deliberate choice to bring them together for this album, even though they were not initially connected to one another. One of them is an exception and is more of a collection of vocalizations and cries without actual words, composed in a language incomprehensible to humans because it is nonverbal.

This collection of imitated chants and sung songs had to be illustrated by the collages of my friend Fen. Even though the stories describe real species and elements, they are indeed imagined tales. Her collages are, too. There’s also the violin that adds a wandering touch to the pieces, and other instruments that shape the environment and setting of these stories. Bells, bird calls, whistles, flutes, jaw harp, harmonica — all imitate more or less imaginary species. Each has its role... more
Cat # RAVAGE21
label : Martine Ravage Records
5 tracks – 45:08
Released 09/05/2025

Knôb is a duo formed by Yann Vollemaere and Emilien Couvreur.
Soundscapes combining ethereal layers and immersive textures.
Expansive atmospheres where time seems to dissolve.
The tracks are the result of improvisations made using modular synthesizers that take us through electronic textures towards soft progressive and hypnotic melodies.
A musical project in the shape of a geological landscape, in which the ruins of the Anthropocene rise up.

-----
Dive into a post-digital atmosphere. Post 2050.
The post-tech-world.
Somewhere among Deep Industrial Core, Low Speedcore Terror and Witch House.
A sonic alchemy that vibrates every fiber of your being, served by a voice that oscillates between punk and invocation.
A raw, vindictive experience with rhythmic layers that intertwine like a complex puzzle.
A hardcore sound with tribal overtones.
An oracle in no-future mode.
And the gentle abrasion of kick-hit asphalt.
Between witchcraft and industrial charm.

Žygimantas Dzikevičius aka @zygzyl5, half of @e506 hails from the urban district of Pašilaičiai in Vilnius, Lithuania. Since embarking on his musical journey in 2007, Žygimantas has been deeply influenced by the raw energy of old-school rave, breakbeat, and techno. His early work focused on crafting dubstep and jungle tracks, earning him spots as a dj at various underground parties and open-air events in Lithuania. In late 2019, he adopted the alias 5ZYL, a name that quickly garnered attention in electro/breakbeat scene.
