Après plus d'un an d'enregistrement et de théâtre/concert avec Assommons les Pauvres, Rise People, Rise! revient en live le 14 Janvier pour fêter deux événements de taille : la sortie du deuxième album et les 30 ans de Lucas de Geyter, batteur-chanteur du groupe.
Et pour ça, quoi de mieux que l'International(e) ?!
Au programme, gros concert avec l'intégralité des deux premiers albums joués, entre autres, stand et expo de nos grands tarés d'amis du fanzine KRONIK, stand de merch, stand du Monde Diplomatique, Jacques Pieiller, exceptionnel comédien de son état, qui nous fera l'honneur d'ouvrir la soirée, et vous pourrez aussi y trouver le dernier (grand, mais est-il seulement besoin de le préciser) livre d'Evelyne Pieiller, sorti il y a peu chez Finitudes : L'Almanach des Réfractaires. .

GLISTENING EXAMPLES is proud to announce “Soundtracks for Takeshi Murata” (GLEX-1302), the debut LP/CD of Kentucky-based electronic musician Robert Beatty under his given name. Beatty has long been a presence in the experimental underground as a member of Hair Police and more recently performing and recording solo under his Three Legged Race moniker. He is also well known for his visual art, which encompasses installation, drawing, video, and album artwork design for countless artists including Oneohtrix Point Never, Real Estate, Vybz Kartel, and Peaking Lights.

“Soundtracks for Takeshi Murata” collects Beatty's compositions for digital video glitch pioneer Takeshi Murata, produced between 2004-2007. Beatty's collaborative relationship with Murata has spawned some of his strongest work to date, and Glistening Examples is honored to present this music to the public for the the first time outside of screenings, museums, and galleries. Beatty has performed alongside Murata's work in New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Beijing, where he performed several shows, including at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art during the 2008 exhibition, "Stray Alchemists."

The formative elements of the recent Three Legged Race full length "Persuasive Barrier" (Spectrum Spools, 2013) are apparent in the rubbery pulsations of "Escape Spirit Videoslime" and the ghostly buzzing harmonics of "Untitled (Silver)". Moving between hypnotic minimalism, dense processed atmospheres, and spacious drones, often in the same track, these pieces are the perfect corollary to Murata's fractured and viscous visuals. While the video and audio are linked in the same fluid time space, the soundtracks are presented now as stand-alone works, powerful compositions drawn from the same underlying chaos apparent in Murata's ever-shifting psychedelic environments. This is exciting electronic music that invites the listener to imagine their own videoscapes with or without having viewed Murata's work.

“Soundtracks for Takeshi Murata” is published in an LP edition as well as CD format, with new artwork from Murata, design by Beatty, and digital mastering by Jason Lescalleet at Glistening Labs USA. The LP includes a download code and an 11"x17" poster. The CD includes a bonus track not found on the LP.

Entre attraction foraine et cabinet de curiosités high-tech, ces "Prototypes du Grand Napotakeu (2)" proposent un parcours multiforme dans le monde parallèle de l’artiste Jérôme Lefdup. Ainsi, le Néologramme Dénébolien, aux allures "Steampunk" rétro-futuristes, présente quelques Multiglutes -créatures virtuelles qui peuplent la plupart des vidéos de Jérôme Lefdup - s’ébattant dans leur élément naturel : le vide. Il précède le "Vidéorium annulaire" qui dévoile dans l’ombre, des volumes virtuels mouvants et passablement psychédéliques. Puis, c’est L’Écran Profond des Îles Salomon qui donne un volume aux images animées en les découpant en fines tranches, selon une technique ancestrale. Mais Le Temps se couvre car l’insouciance est toujours menacée par un nuage chargé d’images lourdes de sens divers.

Jérôme Lefdup est plasticien, musicien, réalisateur et artiste vidéo. Depuis 1982, il réalise de nombreuses expérimentations vidéos et musicales, des clips (Brian Eno), des émissions de télévision (L’œil du cyclone, Imagina…), des spectacles (L’Enterrement des Maîtres du Monde…), des albums musicaux (Siamois des Oreilles…), des DVDs décalés (Musique de Chanvre, Lucrate Milk…). Et il ne compte pas s’arrêter là !

Here we go. Volume 5. The last in this series, for the time being. The infinite nature of the library world means that I could conceivably do this whole thing again ten times over, if I had access to every library LP in existence, but for now I have done all I can. And I'm very excited about this temporarily-terminal installment, as it's the biggest yet, a seething, pulsing 2 and a half hours of cosmic jungle washes and bright plastic synthi-time rituals du sauvage.

This set runs a gamut from sterling electronic avant-garde (of a sort) to some rather more crass (but awesome in its way) e-music material, but they're all part of the same continuum, all speaking the same basic language of exoticism. In this case, the gulf between the linguistic portal of the track's title and the formal elements of exoticism as evidenced by the music itself is as wide, or wider, than ever. It's a fascinating thing about synth music: if you title an ambient sequencer-driven track "Neptune," then the listener unavoidably pictures an icy celestial body, imagery on a planetary scale. If you title that same track "Jungle," then the listener conjures exotic visions of a rainforest, perhaps with a sci-fi/UFOlogical twist, or hot hazy shades of deep antiquity. Neither experience would be more or less intrinsically authentic or perceptive than the other; you're just responding to the stimulus with which you've been provided—and besides, what does exotica, of all things, have to do with fidelity to fact, tradition, or formal rules, anyway? If a track says it's exotica, then by gum it sure as hell has to be, doesn't it?

Many of the selections in Tropicosmic do lean particularly, even exclusively, hard on that paratextual tension to achieve their take on exotica. But it's a spectrum: many others go all in for overt signifiers, classic genre hallmarks, and/or formal tropes of exoticism, all while employing the synthesizer palette to transform, mutate, or update the idiom. There's all sorts here, even if nearly half of the selections employ the words "jungle" or "Africa" in their title—the most interesting thing is the variations and repetitions of strategies.

David Toop referred to Exotica (in his book, Exotica) as "fabricated soundscapes in a real world." He could scarcely have said it better, and it's as applicable a phrase now as ever. Please enjoy this panorama of the synthesized exotic universe, as I hope you have enjoyed the broader panorama of the library-exotica landscape throughout the run of Bibliothèque Exotique. Marion Camy-Palou livre sous la forme d’un concert dansé le récit d’un voyage dans une ville inconnue. Les paysages défilent comme autant d’oasis sonores, portés par des textes minimalistes en français. Elle collabore ici avec Charlotte Boisselier, musicienne et ingénieure son, pour livrer un set électro entre techno hypnotique et minimal wave. Louise Nicollon des Abbayes assure la dramaturgie et la mise en scène du show.

La galerie anne barrault est heureuse de présenter une nouvelle exposition de David B. intitulée «Mon Frère et le Roi du Monde»,
un ensemble exceptionnel de 72 dessins. Ce projet fait suite aux deux dernières expositions personnelles de l’artiste au Centre d’art
le Pavillon Blanc à Colomiers et au Musée de l’Abbaye Sainte-Croix aux Sables d’Olonne, ainsi qu’à la sortie d’un ouvrage publié
à l’Association. Des dessins inédits et des oeuvres en volume de David B. seront également présentés.

ENTERCOURSE OF THE NEW AGE

La techno de Détroit a eu son lot d’artistes visuels — Alan Oldham ou encore Abdul Qadim Haqq — la scène New Age électronique a imprimé des milliers d’images, tandis que l’esthétique rave se trouve aujourd’hui célébrée par Jeremy Deller et fait l’objet de publications exhaustives. Mais toute la musique électronique n’a pas eu cette chance, et le gros de la production fait d’EP — et non d'albums comme d'autres genre musicaux — a du se contenter de pochettes standardisées. Certains genres comme la Chicago House n’ont même jamais vraiment développé d’esthétique propre (si ce n’est une esthétique par défaut, très hétéroclite).
Comme bien d’autres amateurs, nous avons dessiné au feutre sur ces innombrables pochettes vierges ou bien réalisé des Jpegs pour nos bibliothèques iTunes, mais certains de ces disques méritent mieux que ces visuels amateurs. Aussi, nous avons demandé à une douzaine d’illustrateurs, graphistes, photographes, artistes contemporains de pallier ce manque et d’imaginer des visuels inspirés par des disques ou des morceaux de Blake Baxter, Master C&J, Steve Pointdexter, Mark Goddard, Utopia Project, Gherkin Jerks, Sleezy D, Tyree...
