It's curious to see how along the way artists and labels appear and disappear from the music scene for no apparent reason.
New arrivals are filled with hope and ingenuity, they often appear as a continuation of other more established offerings and sometimes they surprise us with something completely new that attracts a lot of attention.

What always leaves us a little disheartened is when a musician or label with a wealth of experience and that has given us so much joy suddenly ceases its activities and enters what we believe to be a state of hibernation, or simply stops publishing forever.
What always comes to mind is,
"Why?"

In the last email I shared with Calum, this came up regarding the wonderful label he ran (Conditional). The phrase was more than descriptive: "It stopped because life takes over."
And I suppose this will be the reality for a lot of labels and musicians who simply had to give up because their passion isn't compatible with their new or more complicated lifestyle.
Isn't this a little sad?

We have to understand that even making a single track with current standards is very complicated. Sounding as good as the biggest names becomes an arduous task. The investment in time and money is substantial and sometimes the reward from the public isn't adequate. Imagine transferring all of this to a label that combines graphic art, printing formats, shipping, mastering, etc.
Which leads you to wonder:
what's the point of all this?

The point has always been the same: sharing what you carry inside with others, which I believe is the most precious and generous action a soul can take.

Calum is a fantastic and surprising musician. He has been in both roles we've described, filling the scene with amazing music for years. This new album, which Calum describes this way, "This record is closer than usual to my older work as Acronym; there's a bit more intentional programming weaved in with the stochastic/deterministic/algorithmic/whatever stuff and finally getting out of equal temperament into 25-edo scales…"
You'll find vibrant melodies and intricate rhythms, as only he knows how, all seasoned with fantastic sound processing.
