Before New Beat there was the AB sound.
The AB (Ancienne Belgique) was a discotheque in Antwerp.
DJ's playing obscure tracks and usually no more than 110 BPM and some records from 45 RPM to 33 +8 RPM. It was the beginning for a new genre called New Beat.
